Life is good! Work wood!

Announcement: January 1, 2005

I have received a few emails recently asking whether Inthewoodshop.org is going to be discontinued. Unfortunately, I have been unable to make any updates to the web site for a while and that has given the impression I have given up on the site. For those who were wondering, take heart. Life has necessitated a short pause.

The last couple of years I have been flapping my gums about a big move, one that never seemed to take place. Well, it finally happened. In the last week of August, 2004, our UHaul finally loaded, we left New Jersey for the cooler climate of Northern Alberta, Canada. “Why did you do that”, so many have asked? We are originally from Alberta and we decided it was time to move home. Thus, we packed up the tools and everything else, of course, and headed home. As usual, things are never as easy as they should be.

What should have been a six day drive turned into a 20 day nightmare; we arrived in an early snow storm and weather delayed unloading for days - but I digress. Since the move, my tools have remained in storage so I have done no woodworking at all in months. I am going insane! What was to be my new woodshop has to be torn down to the ground and a completely new structure must be built. Unfortunately, with our Northern Alberta winters, this will have to wait some months.

In the meantime, I will be adding bits and bobs to Inthewoodshop.org. I beg your forgiveness in advance as most of the new material will, no doubt, revolve around the process of building and setting up a new shop. Judging from my site statistics, however, this will be of interest to many of you. I have hopes of getting my father’s garage set up enough to work wood a little bit so there is still hope that some new projects or ideas may make their way onto the web site despite my situation.

Thank you to all my readers for your continued support, and welcome to those of you who have just found the site. Happy woodworking to all of you. Please accept my very best wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year – with much time spent In The Woodshop.
