August 16, 2002 - Occupations

Someone on rec.ww brought up the number of people in computer related jobs that seem to be involved with the newsgroup. I did ask some employment related questions on the survey but wasn't sure what to do with them afterwards. The question intrigued me so I did up a quick graph.

One of the things I am not happy about is the overabundance of so-called "white collar" type occupations. What do you think? I would be happy to get any suggestions regarding a better categorization of occupations in case there is a second survey (assuming I have that much time on my hands). One thing is certain, I sure missed out on the engineers. I never even thought about them. Sorry.

You will see however, that there is a preponderance of people in computer related occupations that responded to the survey. Please note that I had to do some grouping to narrow the number of categories. For example anyone involved in any aspect of transportation is under one heading. I had to throw out 2 occupations as, even with research, I couldn't figure out what they were. My apologies to you both. Click the link below to view the graph. I hope it didn't lose too much clarity in the transformation.
