Life is good! Work wood!

Keeping Glue Off Your Bench Top

I know, you probably heard this one already. However, if I am painting or gluing up something, the last thing I want is to get a bunch of paint or glue on my bench top. I have a simple solution to this. I always keep a box of those newsprint sheets on hand, you know the kind you use to wrap fine China when you move. You can by them at Public Storage or other storage places, Staples probably, or U-Haul. I usually get them from the local U-Haul. They are indispensible when cleaning up antique hand planes or gluing up panels or other parts. Obviously if you are using stain or something that can seep through paper, you need to place a plastic sheet down, perhaps underneath. However, if I am cleaning up a plane purchased on EBay or something, I place a couple on the bench before I start, then get to work. When finished, I can fold up the paper, rust particles or glue beads included, and into the wastebasket it goes. Probably this is not the most environmentally friendly way of doing things but it makes my life easier.
